Current Events

I don’t’ want to give poorly tanned monsters too much space in my blog, so I’ll talk about the ripple effects of chaos instead. I find myself asking, to no one in particular, if people who latched on to hatred are happy at the moment? Was it worth it, and are your eggs cheaper?

I remember the last time an overweight buffon was in office, times were not great. I was constantly being threatened with job loss, racism got a greenlight to willfully appear in public, and everyone was angry, including the people in power.

Now here we are, once again, in the same place we were last time, except things are MUCH worse! How are those egg prices again? Was it worth it? I was not shocked to see that this country has yet again embarrassed me with its illiterate stupidity. It’s unfortunate that all of us who wanted better have to suffer because people couldn’t connect egg prices to the bird flu.

Unfortunately, other than silent protests, there is nothing much else to do except try and survive these next four years of orange colored bullshit. My way of doing this is by leaning into community.

Letter Writers Social
I recently joined this amazing group of people who love all things written and stationery. I just completed my first month with the group and the activities were a saving grace for this hellish January. I have mailed off so many things and I’ve had fun putting things together, it’s been a peaceful escape.

Craft Retreats
I went on my first-ever craft retreat this month. I was nervous because I didn’t have any crafting projects open, I did have books though. I was able to finally finish Madame Bovary. It was so refreshing being with supportive like-minded women. It was what I was missing in my life. I left feeling hopeful and happy. We have another one in the books planned for summer and I’m anxiously awaiting another fun weekend full of fun, laughs, and wine.

Book Clubs
I’ve been going out of my way to find readers and read with them. It’s been fun. I have a book club with my mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. I read a book over holiday break with my mom, and we discussed it during Christmas. The women from my craft retreat are all readers, and what a breath of fresh air to have so much bookish conversation.

I’m anxiously awaiting spring so that I can put my mind to gardening. I’m also incredibly grateful to myself for ejecting social media from my life. I can’t imagine what the climate is currently like there and glad to be rid of it. I hope everyone else who didn’t ask for this chaos and uncertainty is able to find some silver lining and peace somewhere in their lives. For all those that did vote for hatred and chaos-I hope you are living the live you deserve! :)
